We really could live in a world full of good, if only people chose to do something about it

Every night, my family comes round the dinner table for a meal together and we have the news playing on our television screen behind us. Every night, news stories of tragedies, corruption, scandals and violence are shown and our world is portrayed to be full of hatred and negativity. And on the surface, one could say it is. Just the other day an innocent young man was killed, leaving his friends, family, and even the whole nation shocked at how this could happen. We are drilled with facts of the blemishes to our world, instilled with the idea that the society that we live in is doomed. But that's the surface of it all. On the surface if we looked at the running news stories every night, hell the world we're living in seems like a horrible place. There's still wars going on, the police are corrupt, countries are in poverty, and here we are wondering how on earth this is happening. But beneath all of this, beneath all of the madness and chaos that consumes our everyday lives we tend to ignore how blessed we really are. The sun rises everyday, you wake up with air in your lungs, and you get an opportunity to make a difference- let that be big or small- in your life every single day that you're on this earth. And if that's not something to be thankful for, I don't know what is. We have two options; sit back and let the world pass us, let it pass us with things that we see not to be right and just accept it. Or we can make small differences every day to make our world a world full of good. I'm not saying that as a generation we're going to completely solve the worlds issues, but if we even make a small dent on the world that we're living in, that's better than nothing. Robert Kennedy once said

“Few will have the greatness to bend history itself, but each of us can work to change a small portion of events. It is from numberless diverse acts of courage and belief that human history is shaped. Each time a man stands up for an ideal, or acts to improve the lot of others, or strikes out against injustice, he sends forth a tiny ripple of hope, and crossing each other from a million different centers of energy and daring those ripples build a current which can sweep down the mightiest walls of oppression and resistance.” We could make this world as amazing as it has the potential to be, once we see that potential. To realise that this world underneath all of the tragedies and hatred that is put in our faces on a daily basis holds so much stupefaction in the simplest of things is the greatest quality we can hold. And with that quality as a generation, the importance to shape the world into something of greatness holds so much vitality.  I really do believe that the generation I'm a part of has the potential to shape history, small steps at a time, but those small steps all add up to the greater journey.
